Esther and Taft

One of my best friends, Phil, drew and colored this! It’s a picture of two characters I used to write with on Silklantern awhile ago. They are lovers, but they make a good show of not being sometimes. Fond memories of writing ole Taft & Esther Mayhue! Thanks, Phil – you are the man! You can check out Phil’s work by scrolling down on my blog and clicking his name under “Artists”. Do it now!

The goodbye cake

This is a picture of my family which was taken on my last Sunday as the pastor of Pigeon River Baptist Church in Vanderbilt, MI. Don’t we look nice. Oddly enough, I had my picture taken with the “goodbye cake” like 6 times! Maybe they liked the cake more than me??? LOL.

Seriously, here’s another…

What? Still need more proof? Well then I submit Item A:

(Disclaimer: this was just for laughs. The cake was probably the best I ever ate, seriously. And those people have given me a lot more than cake over the years. They took up a love offering for us when we left, and that money helped us our a lot! Thanks PRBC for the cake and your love!)

Serving a new King

Three weeks ago I started working for Burger King. After placing my resume everywhere imaginable, and some places several times, Burger King hired me.

I’m training to be an assistant manager. I have spoke to the franchise owner about the possibilities of running my own store in the near future. It looks optomistic.

Fast food wasn’t my first choice, for several reasons, but I do have a good amount of experience with it, so it’s easy, generally. But there is a lot to learn. I like the way they are run, and I am enjoying my time with the crew and managment team. I will be going to Indian River in the next couple weeks to finish my training.

So for now, I’m working for another king, lol.

Saying Goodbye to Myspace

I’m canceling my myspace account. My computer was hit with something while messing around on there, and I’m not taking any chances.

The Powers of Preternia

I have been listening to a couple podcasts entitled “The Powers of Preternia”.

They tell the story of Eternia’s history, the realm of He-man and the Masters of the Universe.

In the new seasons of The Masters of the Universe, He-Man’s powers are said to be those of a great ancient king, Grayskull, who ruled Castle Grayskull in ancient days.

From there some people have taken that glimps of He-Man’s planets history and vastly expanded on it, giving history that is even pre-King Grayskull, thus “Preternia”. Some familiar characters are around in Preternia, and so far it is very interesting and well dramatized, I think.

If you’re a He-Man fan, like I am, then I think you’ll enjoy this. Even if you’re not, but you’re a story writer you might enjoy this and it might give you some ideas to write a pre-whatever you’re interested in some time.

Listen here.

Following…

From Scot McKnight:

The oddest thing has happened in American Evangelicalism: it has taught, whether aloud or not, the idea of “once saved, always saved” as if perseverance were not needed. In other words, it has taught that if a person has crossed the threshold but then decides to abandon living for Christ, that person is eternally secure. This is rubbish. Perseverance is an indicator of what faith is all about: a relationship that continues, that is marked by steady love. No one equates marriage with a wedding day statement of intent, and no one should equate faith with a decision.

What does it mean to persevere? It means that we continue to believe, that we live like it. It doesn’t mean sinlessness; it doesn’t mean that we are some steady incline into sanctification; it does not deny stumbling or messy spirituality. It doesn’t deny doubt and problems. It simply means that the person continues to walk with Jesus and doesn’t walk away from him.

What Dreams May Come

Ever seen the movie?

Go rent it.

You’ll enjoy it, and I think it will make you think.

I don’t want to talk about it here, because I don’t want to give any of it away, but I really enjoyed it. I’ve always liked anything that Robin Williams has done, and I really liked Cuba Gooding Jr. in this as well.

Mothman & Company

Over the five years we pastored in Vanderbilt we made some great friends. One family we grew to love dearly, and still do, is the Tubbs family.

Three of them are blogging.

Rita is a writer, having had some works published. Her blog focuses on helping others enjoy her passion and do it well.

He oldest son, Josh, is an espiring Conservation Officer, and has a cell phone attached to his ear night and day. His blog is here.

And her second oldest, Jonathan, who we affectionately dubbed “Mothman” (for obvious reasons – see pic above) blogs here.

Both Jonathan and Josh are great photographers, although Josh spends more time photoing himself for his girlfriends viewing…Jonathan has some great outdoor and insect photos for you to enjoy. His insight and study into the insect world is amazing, and he has been published, and has won many local and state awards for his efforts.

OCMA – restructure, revive, redirection

Spent 2 hours this morning with my brothers and sisters who make up the renewed Otsego County Ministerial Association. We spent time sharing our stories and talking about how the OCMA has impacted our lives and where we are headed. We are restructuring and will be spending the better part of a year reforming who and what we are as an association. I’m pumped for this, and glad to be apart of it!

I’m hoping to develop the webpresence for the OCMA, and use it as a vehicle to further our purpose(s) as an association. Right now it’s just in the planning stages, and I know as we progress we will be laying out our values and our mission as an association. Of course, I have to come home and design stuff for it…here’s the prelim:

Here are two more I worked on today:
