The whole cd and nothing but the cd!
I know some people buy cd’s because they like this song or that song. It’s only natural. I have, and probably will buy them for the same reason.
What sometimes happens though is that the whole cd never gets listened to. Or, what usually happens is there are like 2 good songs on the cd, but the rest sucks.
I bought a Keith Urban cd, Golden Road, because I liked his song that was popular at the time, “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me?”. Then I listened to the cd in its entirety. For those who know me know I am a HUGE Keith Urban fan.
I am a huge fan because I like his cd’s. Not just the individual songs…but how the cd plays out. How it all fits together. And, not that it tells a story or that it has a theme, per se, but it all fits. It all goes toegther. His cd’s are greatness. I love cd’s (I’m so used to saying “albums”) that you can put in, not for the individual songs, but for the cd. Does any of this make sense? How about you? Do you feel the same?

Thanx to mp3’s, I hear a song on the radio I like I can just come home and download that one song rather than going out a purchasing the whole cd. Although it seems that lately the cds that I am buying have been better as a whole then they used to be. or a long time “Appetite For Distruction” was one of few that was good all the way through. Now, thanx to excellent bands like Electric Six, Coheed and Cambria, and Buckcherry, there are many more worth listening to all the way through.
I’m horrible at this. I buy a CD just to hear the one song and take chances that the rest of the CD will be ok too. Some bands, no matter what, I’ll buy anything they put out.
This is how I end up with some CDs and three years later will go through my collection and wonder what in the hell was I thinking?
I’ll even download the MP3 in addition to buying the CD.
I just like to have the CD. Read over all the liner notes (even the fine print…sometimes you find funny stuff hidden in the words). Read all the lyrics, the thank yous, look at the artwork sometimes. All of it.
Many times all of that adds to the message behid the CD.
So I understand completely.
I want to hear more about Keith Urban. You hardly ever mention him.
Oh, and while you’re at it, let’s hear more about Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks and Hank Williams Jr.
Suggestion: ask this amyjo person for musical advice - at least she listens to r o c k
How do you go from AC/DC to a long-haired red neck singing about his pick up truck.
I’m going to Gary’s blog.
I’m the same way with album artwork, Bri. Many times what I discover in the little CD inserts will make or break a band for me. Besides, if you have the money, showing off a CD collection can be quite impressive. For me, I have about four CD’s, and my wife has a couple dozen. We used to have hundreds… not sure where they all went. Did I burn them? I hope not.
Hmmm……..
Yeah…….
torched, I’m afraid.
LOL, Corey. We posted at about the same time here.
what is with burning the cd’s?
Someone asked me if I could burn a particular CD for them. I said sure and torched it.
The subsequent burnings were more of a self-imposed nazi-type thing that I *had* to do. The only way I can explain is that I had to do things the hard way to discover that they were the difficult, wrong things to do. I’m stubborn that way.
